    Old school engraving

I have a origional unnumbered factory replacement part for a old Luger that I would like to have stamped or cut numbers installed to make it more correct. The pistol has been refinished, so it is not a high dollar collectable, but even though it is a just a shooter, it is a fairly obvious omision.
Any one know of any one in the Orange County or Long Beach area?
I'd rather not send it out, as I will need to take other parts so that the engraver can match the font, and I'm a little paranoid about leaving irreplaceable parts with others.
I have tried local engraving shops, but now days, it's only laser or chemical etching. Not much depth.

Go over to the engravers cafe and ask Sam for a recommendation. I can tell you though finding traditional push engraving is going to be difficult. A jewelry store high end would know where to find one. And I know there's a shot in Paso Robles that deal with high end custom guns.

Did you use a template or was it freehand?

If I did that it would look like a three year old with a fat crayon did it.

Dremel and engraving shouldn't be in the same sentence find an engraver, FEGA would have been my recommendation too. I know what you mean about irreplaceable parts, it doesn't sound like from your description though this is an extra part, and it isn't a collector's piece, probably it wouldn't be ok if you trust the person to engrave the part to let them hold onto things. These two are probably driving distance to you and I don't think I'd worry about leaving parts with them. Red

Freehand. It turned out ok but could have been better, works fine on ak though

Why is a engraver being suggested to replicate numbers on a part that originally was steel stamped??????????

You need to find someone that collects and uses old letter/number stamping sets to try to replicate what you want. You will also have to refinish the part as engraving or stamping will damage the finish.

I am sort of suspicious of the OP's story to begin with because trying to replicate something that would make it look like a original part for "just a shooter" makes no sense for the cost involved.

Makes perfect sense to me. Some people just like their stuff to look as correct as possible. Have you seen the lengths that some of the retro AR guys go to? How about 74ullc? Their whole business is making AK receivers that are as true to the the originals as possible.

Yeah I know what you're thinking. OP might be trying to spoof a matching luger. I've seen my fair share of incorrect waffenamts and bogus deaths heads too. I'm always skeptical of guns like that. But to say that nobody would would do something like that for a shooter gun is about as wrong as you can get.

YOU are suspious after your history?
                          Give me a break.
I specifically stated that the pistol has been refinished which means there is little collector value.
You have never refinished a stock, or replaced a part to improve the apearance of a gun? Never bought a bunch of mil sup's and switched the parts around?
IF you knew anything at all about stamped numbers, you would know that it is very hard to come close to getting the correct font and it is very common to have numbers engraved. It is also easy to spot a engraved number if you are the least bit knowledgable.

Excuse what "history" are you are you talking about??

Please tell me because it seems you are trying to say I have done something shady and or illegal.

Either provide proof or remove your statement as I am beyond being "nice" to people defaming me over rumors and false statements made with no facts or evidence.

I have no problem putting a request for you to get banned.

I restore old guns all the time and have seen a HUGE upsurge in fakes and people trying to take non original parts and make them look original. I understand the whole thing with AKs and other guns BUT the resale value of a old AK is no where close to a Luger with all original matching parts, not even in the ball park. Yes there is people who care less about the resale value on a firearm and spend money on making them look old and worn but certain types, like old Lugers, it is very uncommon to do so.

All I said I was suspicious of the story and YES you CAN find the fonts as there IS people who specialize in collecting and using old steel stamps to replicate old style fonts exactly as they are the original stamps used by the manufacturers.

Being suspicious and accusing someone of wrong doing is 2 totally different things.

People wanting the police go after you for theft?
People so mad that they have to come over to your house and beat on your door?
