Help!... cross threaded bullet button, wont come off

We are living in AZ for a while so I wanted to remove all my BB's.

It just figures it had to be on my most expensive rifle as well. I have a BB that is stuck on. The little screw inside the hole is turning real hard but nothing is happening. So the Dros dealer either used loctite or cross-threaded it during install. Either way its not doing anything when I spin it.

Ideas on how to get this thing off without damaging the gun?

Best bet would be to drill it out. The metal housing that doesn't move will be replaced anyways.

drill out the stud that holds the mag release bar from the left side of receiver. Us a center punch to mark center of stud and use a 3/16" bit with a drill press if you have one.

Woah. It's probably loctite, get the button hot with a cigarette lighter or soldering iron. No need to drill things yet lol.

But if it's spinning already, heat may not do anything.

This is the best way. Drill and scrap the $5 part and replace it. You can salvage the rest of the stuff when it is out of the receiver.

Im not sure I understand. What exactly are you drilling?

              You have 3 components:

              1.) The BB housing.
2.) The tiny BB nut inside the housing.
3.) The mag catch threaded end that the BB nut screws on to.

I am pretty sure that the BB nut that threads on the mag catch is stripped. I though I could pull the mag catch from the left side and force the stripped nut to unscrew but no joy. I tied a tring around it and pulled while turning the nut but again nothing happened.

You need to drill the stud out of the back side of the mag catch Then it'll just fall apart.

I think op may be confused on how to remove/install a Bullet Button.

Johnjacobschmidt, Can you tell us what tool you used and how you tried to remove the BB slotted nut? Did you attempt to remove it by simply turning the bolt catch?

Based on what you've described, it sounds like you're trying to remove the bolt catch from a standard magazine release button.

In order to remove the BB, you may need the Bullet Button Installation Tool or something similar. It looks like RifleGear is currently out of stock. Check out the following link to get a better understanding on how the tool works.

If it is difficult to remove (with the slots engaged properly), then an adhesive such as Loctite may have been use during the installation. As bigcalidave suggested, use a soldering iron and apply heat to the threads on the bolt catch before reattempting to remove the BB nut.

If all else fails and the BB nut is damaged or crossed threaded, drill per the suggestions in this thread. "X" marks the spot. Be careful and seek assistance as needed.

An alternative is to the drill from the BB end. The example is illustrated in the following thread.

                  Good luck!

Drilling it out isn't a chore for a guy who has to ask for help. Steel stud surrounded by aluminum is just asking for damage to the lower. heat it to about 300 deg will release the locktite (but will bake any oil on the lower). Otherwise, get help from someone who has a milling machine. Drill press will work if someone is pretty talented or lucky. --Jerry

                      Right here.
Like others have said, don't do it free hand. Use a drill press at least, or a mill is best. If you don't have these, take it to someone that does.

I have done this a few times.
                          It always works perfectly.

if drilling will not work you can usually press it out.
