What is involved in removing a A2 flash hider and installing a muzzle brake. I have heard about using a crush washer to line it up.

Removing is just a matter of securing the rifle and twisting off the A2. The A2should have flats for a wrench, tighten the wrench & twist off the FH. FWIW, I secure the standard front sight in a vise. It's a strong twist to get it off, but not too tough.
I'm lousy at using a crush washer to index an MB, used a Miculik because it has a lock nut.GOA Member & SAF Life Member -

You don't even need the washer if the suppressor threads on all the way
to the end of the barrel threads.
Make sure to clamp the rifle barrel AND the front sight assembly into the
