No idea if they just sell the part, but the package will run you about $800 from Novak.

If they do sell the part, it is just a simple grip safety and msh fit in one.
I called Novak, and they told me that they will not sell me a 1911 without a grip satefy.

I looked on Novak's website and saw the package you are referring to. I am still not sure what the package includes, but I will give them a call and get more details. Thank you.

You most likely will not find any reputable gunsmith to do that work for you for one simple reason ...... Liability.

Even though it is something YOU are requesting to be done and pay for the service and maybe even sign a waiver, the Gunsmith could still be sued by the person(s) that get shot from a accidental discharge.

A 1911 with no grip safety is a accident waiting to happen and all gunsmiths who work on 1911 know that.

That is why the Novak kit is so expensive because a lot of parts need to be changed out to reduce the accidental discharge chance, not just the grip safety. It would be cheaper to go find a 1911 s70 than to go backwards on a 1911 s80.

Nobody should do that work for you

if you want something like that done then you HAVE to do it yourself and know that you can never take that 1911 to a actual gunsmith because he would not allow that pistol to leave his shop because a 1911 is supposed to have a grip safety and by letting a pistol leave without said safety would put him at risk of a future lawsuit.

That is just my opinion and what i would do or not do. (i.e not accept that to cross my bench at the least)

Those KTO beavertail backstraps are really nice, but I think that's the only one that combines the MSH with a grip safety.

Maybe you can buy some of those from our board members with extra backstraps if they choose to put in traditional grip safety and MSH on a KTO frame.

I've done that to a couple of my USPSA Limited 1911s back in the day.

If thats what the other guys run.
I don't see a problem with it for competition shooting.

You may want to ask the same question in the competition forums.

Lucky me. I bought a used 1911 with a non functional grip safety.
Anyway...here's a dearth of reasoning to ponder: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Guns
