    samples of camouflage gun finishes

I would appreciate seeing some samples of how people have chosen to finish their rifles (or handguns). I have camouflaged a couple of mine and was pretty pleased with the results, but I know future efforts could benefit from seeing other examples. I would like to see other ideas, and hear about finishing techniques.

I did something similar a few years back. Time for another coat, and this time I'm going to mist it with the dark brown once I'm finished.

Also note the awesomeness that is my sweet duck hunting ghillie hat right above it!

I took the trigger group out and pulled it apart to paint it the first time. Next time I'll probably just tape off the bolt and trigger group. It's my hunting shotgun, it doesn't have to be perfect. I don't remember if the paint is Krylon or Rustoleum, but it's lasted 3 seasons with a few scratches here and there.

I used sea sponge cut in 1" cubes to get the patters on these. I basically painted the entire rifle in khaki, then striped in OD green. I alternated the colors opposite of the base color with the sponge.

Obama ended the gun control debate when he decided to arm the Syrian rebels with fully automatic machine guns and rocket launchers. He proved people need guns to protect themselves from tyranny. Did he give the rebels background checks before giving them real assault weapons?

I love those ideas... the sponge technique looks awesome. I will try that on my next 80% AR10 when I finish it.

Shortround: I used the camouflage Rustoleum paints. Very inexpensive and nice flat non-reflective finish.

NapalmCheese: that's a great looking finish. I have a Mossberg 500 that is still black... I think I'll try something similar to what you've done.

Wow... that 700 would totally disappear in tall grass or dry cattails. very nice.

I like the camouflage net idea... great pattern for broadleaf forest.

After prepping the surfaces paint your base coat on each individual component and let it dry, then assemble the parts that need to match-up.

Go to the fabric store and buy rubberized rug backing then over to the craft store and buy spray on adhesive (like is used on post-it notes). Cut the rug backing to wrap around the receiver then spray one side with the adhesive. Once it gets tacky wrap the mesh around the rifle pressing the adhesive into the paint for clean lines, then use some string to sew the edges together.

Start spraying your top coats. Don't worry about the backing moving, if it does it just adds interest to the paint.

When you get bored, try something fun!
