Is Lassen Community College the only Gun Smith School in CA

I'm looking for a legit hands on curriculum.

I only seem to be finding Lassen Community College as that option.

    for "hands" only school ..yes

but to slam any other school as not legit is ignoring a lot of things.

most people can not stop their lives and move to lassen with no drawbacks.

there are a few online/video course based programs that are quality based out there AGI and penn-foster

I fall into that category. The drawbacks are too high. The NRA gunsmith summer course looks interesting (rent an RV space for three months), but falls very short of the full program.

I took the Law Enforcement Armorers course there way back in the early 80's. The head armorer for the CHP and Bob Dunlap taught the two week class. Excellent in every way. I am a civilian, but the knowledge I gained there has served me well in maintaining my own and friends firearms. I highly recommend Lassen, but watch out for the man eating mosquitoes that come off of Eagle Lake in the evening.

Great fishing at Eagle Lake, especially when the lake turns over in the fall.

thats true but you can't learn much from a video course. I don't see any Shops promoting a guy that graduated from AGI. They come from one of the three schools or were self taught, Or are the Hack job going around screwing up peoples guns.

                  untrue....
i am taking the agi course and have learned tons.
there is a trade of sorts hands on you are well "hands on",with agi/penn you are video and encouraged to have a like wise firearm on hand per lesson type...benefit is you can go back 5 years later to the video if a gun comes in you have never seen since the videos.
a note regarding lassen program, here is a qoute of the class syllabus
                  A note on notes:

They must be good and permanent- NO PENCIL NOTES. You can get around this note requirement by obtaining the AGI professional series course on the subject, i.e. the shotgun course for any of the shotgun classes etc. Remember, bad notes and your grade will suffer.
they reference agi alot assume, and lassen full class program runs 24k plus

the "hack" is going to be a garage guy with no clue,no certs,no license,no insurance,no clue.

I would love to do something like this - just wish there were a local school with evening classes.

I guess thats Why I do all my own work then. I don't trust anyone to work on my stuff.
When AGI shows you how to bring a custom SXS back on face I might consider investing. Yeah you might learn the run of the mill stuff. But what about firearms you don't have? That would take me quite a bit to trust a guy that never seen a certain model before to get his hands on it.

Sorry but with the latest generation of 20-30 year olds that spend more time playing video games then working on a project. Sorry I don't have much faith.

Going to a brick and mortar school shows full commitment to the career path.

I would rack AGI up there with a good gunsmith book. You won't learn a lot from it but it is a good source for reference. But not much else.
