    Sig P229 Recoil spring replacement

I've searched this forum and couldn't find an answer so here goes. Perhaps no one was willing to ask such a silly question before me.

I managed to damage the recoil spring in my P229. I've purchased the factory replacement and notice that one end looks like it's been dipped in blue paint and the other end has not.

My question is, does it matter which end of this spring goes over the guide rod? I'm pretty sure the answer is no as it requires the same amount of effort to install the guide rod on either end of the spring but it wouldn't be the first time I've missed something.

    Thoughts?

I can't see how it would matter, the blue is probably to identify the spring strength.

That is exactly what the blue paint is for. If for a 229 it indicates it's for a .40/357 sig. The spring may also be directional, if the coils have any taper or wind tighter on one end that end should go on the guide rod first

If there is a taper, it's not obvious. This spring is going into a 40.

Are the coils closer together on one end? Flat spring and braided?

Should be multi strand spring for a 229

                It's a multi strand spring.

if one end is tighter to the guide rod(usually the colored side), that end goes to the rear.

Thanks guys. I think I'm good to go.

Now. Time to check out the SRT I installed and see what all the fuss is about.
