what is magazine surge :defined for term reference

this is a observation and factoid for internet use/search purposes
while doing some gunsmith testing for course work it was a stumper due to name and vague description in questioning.a web search showed many questions about it but no answers, with many references to look at calguns. while i did find the answer on my own i felt it needed a place in the search universe of the web.feel free to add or critique without being a *****
it is more tapered towards 1911 style magazines but some other firearms may have issue similar to this
    magazine surge
magazine surge occurs predominately when you have 2-3 rd's left in a magazine and during recoil the next to last round or 2 are ejected out of the gun due to the last round having no/lacking friction to hold the last round in place in the magazine.
essentially both of the remaining rounds move forward due to the recoil *energy* and the top round is lost/ejected ,the last round is loaded into the chamber instead.(basically a 7rd magazine will feed 6 rds with one round left on the ground ).

the cause is in that there is a lack of friction on the magazine follower,so a button/dimple/likewise indentation is needed on the follower to cause the needed friction but at the same time be smooth enough for reliable feeding of ammunition. many manufactures already do this in modern magazines ,they remedied this need with a dimple/ a tapered bulge/ or other means to cause friction from the side also.

    thanks all

    An answer for no question.
    It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

Thanks, I had wondered what the reason was for the dimple on so many followers.
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

Never heard of magazine surge: I checked some of my 1911 mags and noticed some of my old Colt 7 rd had smooth follower (no dimple) and also some fairly new 8 rd shooting star mags didn't have dimples.
I bought a couple of Wilson Combat 8 round mags back in the 80's and always wondered what those ball bearing things were on the follower; learned something new.
