    help XD9 slide problem

Any feed back nor dire tion appreciated.
I have an XD9 and lately on occasion the slide does not lock open upon the last round being shot.
I normally carry hornaday critical duty. When I go to the range my first mag will be my carry ammo. I have not had any problem with it. However I have been buying some built FMJ ammo and it is with this that it will happen..

Not that often but since scares the hell out if me. Yesterday I shot about 250 rounds so out if 25 mags (in can) it happened 4 or 5 times

Reloads are usually powder puff loads. Try factory ammo to replicate issue.

^^^ this - also does it happen with multiple magazines or just the same one?

Thank you. Yes this is the first time I used the less expensive reloads. Unusually go to the range and shoot 1 or 2 boxes of ammo. Good stuff New I would be shooting a lot and bought these reloads. Won't happen again. But I do gave a couple hundred left that I will shoot to determine if it is a particular magazine. Thank you again

With regards to the slide not locking back.

Not saying this is the case, but almost all the times with that malfunction on the XD, not XDM, it is because of your thumb very lightly resting on the slide lock.

It does not take much pressure at all to keep it down far enough to not engage the slide.
Try holding the gun with a empty mag and cycling the slide with various grips, with a traditional thumbs pointing out grip like a Glock or 1911 it will almost always cause that issue once in awhile.

I really noticed it when I first started shooting IDPA competitions, on the XDtalk forum it is a fairly common question with new owners. Its one of just a couple gripes I have with my XD, the slide lock in my opinion sticks out a little to far.
You can buy better slimmer slide locks, but for me it would put me into a different class in IDPA.

The easy way to fix it if this is the case, is to practice shooting with your strong hands thumb crossed over the other hands thumb.

Practice practice and practice that grip hold and you should be good.
The best way to tell if your thumb is the issue, is to go to the range and shoot 100-200 rounds only left handed.
Its not a waste of ammo, weak hand shooting is something lots more people should practice, and you will be troubleshooting your pistol at the same time.

For a more detailed explanation I suggest google searching XDtalk and slide lock issues.
Here's a pic of the cross over thumb hold, although you don't have to cross that drastic. Just rest your thumb on top of the other away from slide lock.

AUState. Thank you very much. I was working with someone who changed my grip slightly.

AUState. That was absolutely it. Slight adjustment and all is good.
                Thank you.

I did have a factory brand new XD9 mag that was bad. Slide did not lock back after last round. Sent it to Springfield and the sent it back and works perfect.
