    FAL help

I need someone up by the modest area who can put together a set (two) metric FAL's for me. Turns out Solar doesn't do FAL builds (I know, right?)
I heard of a guy in Oakland, a Minder I think, but I cant find him here.
    any help would be appreciated.
(I am not willing to go to LA for this)

I'm in Sac and built one a couple of years ago. I won't build it for you, but if I can help let me know.

FYI you could build it from parts on a drosed receiver with no issues other then having to be in possession of his receiver while you do the work. And in reality all that needs to be done that is of major consequence is the barrel installation and head spacing there of. everything else goes together like a detail strip.

I'm aware of what it takes to build an FAL, here's the L1A1 I built,

I just don't want any liability issues, this is California after all.

I already have two pre-2014 DSA receivers, and I just got two rifle kits which I think are Argentinian- they're metric, and so are the receivers. I'm just a college kid whose more willing to pay $500 for the 922(r) parts and someone's time than $300 just for a vice+ wrench, let alone the $280 for an enterprise compliance set (Yes I know they don't have a great history, but they offer the best price for the set) and the $70 for two Featureless grips (BB? Yeah no.)

On the kits- the barrels are fantastic, the kits are still greased, and the barrel nuns are off, but the threads and, well, the kits in general could use to be de-greased thoroughly, but otherwise appear to in fine to good condition.

I don't really mind if I scratch the finish off on these babies, because their going to be my hunting rifles, but I'm more worried, if I were to try and put these together myself, that I do something wrong and have a bomb (a really, really slick looking bomb) on my hands.

I really would go down there, I've heard great things about you from guys on here and I think a few on FAL Files, but it's a 5 and a half hour drive for me. That itself adds another $100 in gas for me. If I can't find a good solid place up here, I'll sell some high liquidity items and notify you.

I dig the inch pattern. Not my style- metric mags are easier to find (I cannot find 10 round inch patterns anywhere for less than $35. All I can find is 10/20's for the price of (drum roll!)... $30.)
Also, that optic looks pretty tough. What's the name/ magnification?

The scope is an original Trilux. My son found it, I can't remember where.
Mags for the inch pattern guns are no problem as you can use both metric and inch pattern ones. You can't use inch pattern in a metric gun though.
These guns are not too hard to build, this was actually my first build. You just need to get the right size breeching washer to get the barrel clocked right. You can use feeler gauges to get in the ball park.
Then you need headspacing gauges and locking shoulder guages to set the headspacing. I have those here in the shop somewhere...............
I cut the original mag release, so you need a screwdriver to remove the mag because I couldn't find a bullet button.
If you have any questions, PM me and I'll get you my cell #.

I can easily get a Kydex slip on, which allows me to keep my mag release, as long as I don't have a folding stock, grenade launcher, flash hider (yay for muzzle brakes!) , a forward pistol grip ( magpul AFG is OK) or a bayonet lug.

So I don't have to mutilate/ neuter my rifle. I just get a sleeve for it's grip, making it a really fat mini-14 in the eyes of the law. It sucks for shooting here, but I've got houses (and careers) set up in both Austin, TX and Moscow, ID.

Post on the FAL Files and see if you might find a helper in the central valley.

Paulie's sight is also know as a "SUIT" site. Used by the Brits and Israelis. It's not an S&B or Leica, but it's plenty good for minute of human at the range FAL's work...a very cool accessory.

If you're hunting, I'd suggest using it in a hide or blind...I carried one once for the hell of it in the field...PITA if you're walking around all day.

I am/would not be overly concerned with 922(r), but do what you need to do.

                      Hope you find a helper.

I'm having trouble with the FAL files- they haven't verified my account. I can log in but can't post.

And I'm used to get a workout when I hunt, so when I go with the FAL, I'll be getting cardio and upper body. Win win.

After messing around with one of the kits, all I really need help with is the two big ones- barrel assemble and putting the freaking charging handle on. (I can't figure it out)
                        After that I'll be fantastic.

So I have the magazine cash in place, but getting the bolt hold open in place with the half screw-pin in a pain. Anybody have a useful tip for that?

Nevermind I got it. The screw isn't 100% flush, but it's cool.
I'm not going to try that again without help.

Most all Fal new receivers will have heavy Park on all the threads and will need them chased if posible or at least a screw or bolt threaded in with lapping compound,Flitz etc if WECSOggin.. or similar measures before assembly.

The BHO/Mag catch screw can be assisted with a slave pin such as paper clip/Qtip etc from the other side.

Congrats on your choice of an FAL. Great rifle, very little recoil when setup right. All the SCAR-H protos in SF armories are FALs!

ETA: If this is DSA its a known issue for the Ejector Block hole for the BHO screw to be slightly misaligned. If its bad contact DSA
