I just took the finish off of my furniture with a paint/stain stripper yesterday due to the cosmoline smell,

Just grabbed some cabernet stain for 5 bucks and I had some clear coat already and now my finish looks better and doesn't give me headaches when messing with my kit.

I've always used WD-40 to remove cosmoline off new machines. It may work for your application also?

              I think it would work.
I also think it is a terrible idea.
              Probably stink for weeks.

I poured near boiling water on my Mosin stock and it turned white-ish cloudy and stayed that way.

I tell folks that is where some Russian soldier was holding it while he froze to death.

Sounds better than "I did another dumb thing".

PS- I hope to hear "health club evacuated after unknown gunman takes hostages with ASSAULT RIFLE.....full story on tonight news" in the near future.

Use Krud Cutter from Walmart available by the GooGone in Paint Aisle. Spray and Scrub it will melt off. You can refinish after if you like or just wipe it down

I put mine in a black garbage bag and left it out to bake in the sun.. worked pretty good.

The sauna idea is just wierd..

OP must be near the coast (ie. Pacifica, SSF). Very cloudy, very cold, very wet. I used to work at a spa/gym with a sauna. Even the slightest smell will permeate into the wood of a dry sauna and ruin the wood bench and floor. The grease will probably bleed out of the towels, too. If you're wrapping the stock in a towels (gym towel) those things are ruined and housekeeping will pick up those gunked up towels and report about how inconsiderate "that" gym member was - they'll probably guess you wiped your arse with it and try to figure out what you ate! Don't do it. Heat lamps sounds like a better idea especially if you don't want to use a heat gun.
