    Harbour Freight

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has use this type of drill press or even recommend it's a 8 In. Bench Mount Drill Press, 5 Speed from harbour freight. Its only 69.99; trying to use it for a current 1911 build and maybe later on for a ar-15 build. Will it work even work?

    I have one.

It is better than not having a drill press (but not by much).

Chuck runout is significant, but it is fine for drilling in wood. If accuracy matters or slow speeds are needed for large metal cutting bits this is the wrong press.

it depends on how much quality you want to have in your build.

To complete a functional 80% frame this will work, to complete a tight fitting 80% frame, this will not.

I asked about this too, many have said to pass on it. Save your dollars and buy a used quality one.

I know that there are better one out there but the price is the thing...how much would a good drill press cost I know this one will cost me around $65 shipped out the door with a coupon. How much more would a good a quality press cost (not top of the line)

It's a DRILL PRESS not a mill. If you want to use it to mill actions, it might work but, there are better tools to use. If you just want to use it to drill holes, it''ll work fine.

I have one of those little drill presses. It's ok for wood or something non critical like rivet holes on an AK. I wouldn't dare use it for anything precision like an 80% 1911.

I think im going to pass on this drill I'd rather get some a bit better that can it all. I'm probably going to go with a Craftsman 10" Bench Drill Press with Laser, seem like a better option. I'll pay twice as much but will do more for I'm in the future. Anyone has used this one? Or recommendations?

I looked it over in the store, then bought a brand name one on Amazon on sale, better press, less $.

Don't forget to use 42A.com when purchasing from Amazon. They donate $ to Calguns.

Buy a good used Jet or something good on Craigslist. You'll be glad you did!

I have had that one for 8 years and never had a problem. It has built hundreds of AKs.

You can purchase it then put a better drill chuck on it. Id suggest to ebay a used Albright keyless chuck. Also, make sure it will turn at slow rpms. (200-400). Ive noticed the cheaper ones dont have low rpms.

if you bought the extended warranty you can trade up. and they will credit the full purchase price towards the new unit.
