I have all of that, not to sure about drilling the barrel hole, though, plus the chuck doesnt run perfectly smoothComment

Yeah I wanna see someone drill and ream a .875" hole for the barrel with a hand drill. The drill catches rips the receiver out of the fixture and flings it across the garage. Yep, yeah, sure it can be done with a hand drill sure it can....Comment

With a hand drill doesn't mean in your hands, and you know this. I did one like this just because. Put the receiver in a jig, in my vise. I also center drill the main hole, then step it up a few times, and finish ream to size....Comment

Yes I know but there are people on this board that can't tie their shoes without reviewing a YouTube video. Me, you and a bunch of others are perfectly adept at doing this this work with minimal tools as we have worked with our hands for quite some time. The majority of those that post questions as the OP did have zero or near zero experience. And giving someone like that very minimal information is setting them up for failure.
How many posts have you seen asking "will this drill press work to MILL lowers"? Or the where are the build parties? Or what tools do I need?
People that are mechanically inclined don't ask these kinds of questions.Comment

That may be true, but everyone has to start somewhere. At least with a 10/22 the odds of screwing up and making something dangerous are tiny, compared to people making a 1911 with a dremel and no measuring tools, then firing a 20 oz hunk of quickly moving steel in front of their face
I'd like to think that in light of people being afraid to do build parties / direct assistance at this time, that people would post very specific questions and actually follow directions on how to build firearms. Then it's just up to people who do have the knowledge to pass it on, so that others can enjoy the building process. If anything, the end of the CNC build party will force a lot of people to learn some skills and acquire tools!...Comment

Some say that he once mooned two prostitutes just for a round of drinks, but wasn't surprised by the reply......They call him, the Hutch
Some say that he rode a dirtbike 7k miles across the country and that he once applied Bengay to his own testicles for a mere $50............They call him, the Hutch -Top Gear

I agree but I'm not referring to someone building something dangerous I'm referring to someone hurting them selves with a 7/8" drill bit doing 1500 rpm. That may be true, but everyone has to start somewhere. At least with a 10/22 the odds of screwing up and making something dangerous are tiny, compared to people making a 1911 with a dremel and no measuring tools, then firing a 20 oz hunk of quickly moving steel in front of their face

Few non machinists understand what surface feet per minute is and even fewer home builders have a 1/2" drive drill that has a max speed of 300 or 600 rpm. Even those HF drill presses have a minimum speed of 650rpm and that's way to fast for a 7/8" bit
That's what I'm getting at. That be safe aspect of the build.
As for passing along knowledge sure I agree it needs to be done. But I'm not here to constantly repeat myself when someone could google it. Type in your search term and add caguns to the end of it all the posts related to the search term will pop up better then the boards internal search.
Too many bozos are too lazy to even do that.Comment
