    Cerakote

While this isn't something most of us can do on our own, but it sort of gunsmithing related, I wanted to give a shout out to Paul over at OC Custom Coating. I just picked up my Smith 39 from him yesterday and he did an awesome job. It doesn't even look like the same gun (I brought him the new stocks). He was great working with picking out the color and modifying the graphite black slightly to make it a bit shinier. It was also completed on time. If you are in So Cal I'd recommend them.

Cool! I had a Colt Series 80 45ACP done a few months back and it turned out awesome!

I will likely have some Cerakoting done on some other firearms in the very near future.

What was the ballpark cost for the work?

Hermosabeach OC Custom Coating charges $200 for a complete handgun with one color. This one cost me $315 for the two colors, magazine coated, and the dis-assembly charge on my fairly uncommon pistol. He has a complete price list on the site.

Ouch ...... while it looks nice that is a bit steep compared to prices from other Certified Cerakoters.

Eagle Eyes are any of the ones you are thinking of in the LA/OC are? I didn't see any when I was looking. Because if I have to ship something that greatly increases the cost and frustration.

why isn't cerakoting something you can do at home?

you can do high temp air cure or even H oven cure since it's a small pistol.

blast it and paint then cure.

bksa it may be something other people could do at home but not something I could do. I would invariably screw something up and I don't have a media blaster or access to one.

I understand but for the price you've paid, you could have bought the equipment needed & plenty of cerakote to try/fail/try again until you succeed.

You just have to willing to put in the time.
