    AR Accu-wedge

I have a little looseness between the upper and lower of my AR.
Bought an Accu-wedge and it is too tight to allow the upper and lower to close.
Can I trim the Accu-wedge for a good fit?

Of course you can; but you'll void the warranty...

Yes. Trim off only a small amount, then test fit each time to get it right. May take a few tries.

use a blade to trim a tad off the bottom. They're all like that for the most part and need a bit of fitting, nothing wrong with that. I use an accuwedge on all my rifles

From my experience the mako fits better. Just for future reference or for anyone thinking of getting one.

I love mine not sure if it was a coincidence but my groupings got better after installing one, I have to push down pretty hard to get the take down pin in but that was after patiently trimming it

Try putting in an O-ring in the location shown. Cheap and effective.

trim and fit slow and if done right should still take a little effort to close.

I had to trim a lot more off of mine than expected. I'd say a good third of it.

There are two different depths that lowers are milled to in the are where the accu wedge sits. Depending on your brand of lower, it may or may not need to be trimmed.

Now I'm no troll and I'm not trying to thread crap but ive never seen the need for the Acu-wedge I no what it does or is supposed to do but quite frankly my weapons don't rattle.

So my question is and this will sound smart arse but are you guys buying the BS that this thing increases accuracy and reliability? or are you using it just to snug up the fit between upper and lower?

I say the accuracy and reliability is BS because the fit to the lower don't really affect it. if you fit is so far out that reliability becomes an issue well you need to find what parts are out of spec and fix it. but accuracy that all in the upper. the barrel, bolt and carrier are all housed in the same piece of metal and don't move. The only thing the interacts with the bolt from the lower is the hammer and that will not affect the accuracy of what this rifle is capable of.

If your fit is that far off to allow a oring to fit in there. Your parts are out of spec.

Just buy a #7 O ring and put it around the front lug for your forward takedown pin. They work great in my M&P 15. Some put them on the rear lug, but on my gun it will not close with it back there.

Being a nonconformist, I use these things:

They are a bit of a pain in the butt when it comes to removing for cleaning, but for those that want all the accuracy available they are the better solution.

Lateral slop in the pivot pin can be removed with these:

However, they need to be fitted to the front pivot pin boss. Mine need to fit a .009" total gap, so I hone two shims to near .004" thickness between two flat oil stones. Placed on either side of the pivot pint they make the upper to lower fit very solid. Does it help, yes but only for a precision setup with custom barrel, aftermarket trigger and precision ammo. The average AR-15 for general use is fine as is. I have plenty of time on my hands and tinkering is my forte, otherwise it wouldn't be worth the effort.

Well I would love to see a before and after target.

There's no way in hell this will have any affect on accuracy. Yeah it will keep the weapon from rattling and annoying you but other then that nothing.
