Need help to install Magpul trigger guard (OC)

    Hi Calguns,

I just ordered a Magpul trigger guard for my Stag AR. After watching tutorials on YouTube and reading complications from bad installs, I do not have the confidence nor the roll pin punches to install. Can anybody recommend a gunsmith in Orange County that can help me at a good price? Thanks.

EDIT: I borrowed a neighbors punch and I replaced the trigger guard in five minutes. I used a phone book and I made a hole in it to support the ears.

Well I think once you have it in your hand you will change your mind.. it is pretty simple. Back up the tang , use some needle nose pliers to start the pin in the hole ( you can squeeze a roll pin tighter to fit) and then

The install will be pretty straightforward probably don't need the roll pin punches, but I have to first uninstall the trigger guard that's already there.

Shop gunsmithing tools (560) at Brownells, including bench blocks, hammer & punch sets, screwdrivers, and tool kits for firearm maintenance and repairs.

This will get you done and you will have the punches to complete other tasks in the future.

Wal-Mart has the punches for cheap. Get that and a hammer and simply tap it out. Just make sure to rest the lobe on a book or something to avoid breaking. Very easy.

Just be sure and support the area as to not break your lower. That little ear where the roll pin goes Into has been known to break if you don't properly support it.

As other have said, it's pretty easy and you don't need roll pin punches (they are nice though)...regular ones work fine. The key is to have good support under the ears. I broke one once, it's repairable, I posted it here (just in case )

Also, something like this can be pretty handy too, but you could just take a hunk of 2X4 and drill some holes to catch roll pins and use that too.

Take it to Riflegear if you don't want to learn how to work on your rifle.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

                  Thanks.

I'm going to give it a shot when the part arrives.

                    Another tip :

Only tap the roll pin out enough to remove the current trigger guard , then place new trigger guard, turn the lower around and tap it back in. Make sense ?

Makes sense. I saw this in one of the videos. The guy said he will have a spare roll pin by reusing the standard one. Off to Harbor Freight to buy a set of punches...

The roll pin pusher from Little Crow works great. I've built dozens of lowers for myself and others without fear of scratching/breaking trigger guard ears.

Little Crow Gunworks developed the World's Finest Trimmer as a precision tool that will last a lifetime. One of the unique features is that the WFT uses a source of power that most reloaders already own.

If you drive up to L.A. often, or ever, I have the little crow tool. We bought it to handle billet and cast lowers where it's much easier to bust a tab.

It's so easy I could have my 2 year could do it if she had the hand strength. Literally takes 2 minutes.
