    Chrome chamber scratched/marred

    Hi All,

This is a brand new AR barrel from a reputable and well-established company, and during an initial inspection I found this black mar/scratch running the length of the chamber. I've tried to check and see if it has any appreciable depth with a small pick and it feels like it catches, but I don't necessarily trust my senses when it comes to something that could be in the thousandths of inches deep.

Have any of you come across this before? I have a line of inquiry in with the manufacturer, but I want to check with an outside source to make sure I'm not being sold on a defect.

I would call up the manufacturer and see what they have to say. Depending on how much you paid would then determine how to proceed. If you paid a premium price, I would expect to get a near perfect product.
Definately a scratch and not a crack?

Meh. It's not going to affect accuracy, life, or functionality. It might be a problem if it extends into the freebore and the throat but I doubt it does. Even if it did it's a chome lined barrel, it's not a .75MOA barrel so the scratch isn't going to be a weak link.

Thanks for the responses, the manufacturer said it was just a toolmark (what operations happen after chrome lining?). So I scrubbed the chamber with a brush and some clp and it looks like the mark is gone, it's persistent on the shoulder, but I'm sure after a couple of hundred rounds it'll buff out.

Could just be a drag mark from a headspace gauge.

That makes a lot of sense, it now seems my worries were completely unfounded. Thanks for the responses.
