    A little fun with Cerokote

HAd some work to do so may as well recolor the USP

FDE and OD green taught myself how to two tone.

Slide for the USP in FDE

    Glock slide in Tungsten

    Ar lower in Tunsten.

1911 22lr in tungsten looks better with a new spray gun and better technique.
Now to be able to do the two tone you have to mask off the area that you don't want top paint. that means a partial bake of the frame to set but not cure the finish. If your cure cerokote then try to recoat it will not stick. the stuff become very slick.
so you pop it in the oven at 150˚ F for about twenty minutes or until it's no longer tacky then break out the blue smooth edge painter tape and go to town. spray you second color as usual then bake the whole thing for three hours.
very time consuming but well worth it.

Yep, every color Cerokote. I will not Duracoat, alumahide, or rattle can a gun.

            Cerokote is the chit

The tungsten needs some practice. The metal flake came out a little heavy and needs some adjustment on the gun

That looks great I'm going to try my hand in some cerakote one of these day.
The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria)"

That's awesome work... it has me thinking, I have several projects that I need to finish and I was leaning towards parkerizing, but now I'm debating. Do you prefer the cerokote over parkerizing and blueing?
But I don't come 'round here to meet nice people anyway
And what the hell am I doing drunk in the middle of the day

Nope. Each has it's place and purpose. I would never Cerokote a rifle or shotgun that should be blued. nor would I Blue anything that should be parkerized.

Cerokote is just another coating that has a niche in certain areas. it is not a replacement for other systems or techniques. it does off some very good advantages over bluing and parkerizing though.

Cheep arse Harbor freight touch up gun

Works good, Not as good as My Binks M1G but I can spray small stuff with the Binks. And I'm not in business to shoot cerokote so I'm not going to spend a few hundred bucks on a spray gun that will only get used occasionally.

I started out with just a Paasche airbrush. and that worked quite well it just took a while to cover the whole part.

You don't need anything fancy thats for sure.

Cool! I gotta give that a try...I've been experimenting with Gunkote using a cheap airbrush and I'm not very happy with the results. I'm using flat black and finding it really difficult to get a finish with an even flat sheen without rough spots or shiny spots. I drive by HF (3 of them in fact) every day and have an abundant supply of 20-25% off coupons so I think one of those will be in my future...that and a can of Cerakote

20-25% of a $14.99 spray gun will be cheep then the replacement warranty is $5

the only issue is the oven. You need an oven to bake this stuff.

Drive down with a part and I'll give you a lesson. for a small fee
