Fitting a bolt handle with heat/cold

I know that some gun parts are fit together by being turned to very high tolerances and then the male part is frozen to shrink it and the female part is heated to expand and the male part inserted. On cooling these are very tight and held together. especially if you can make the male part slightly larger at room temp than the female one

Would this work on a bolt handle for a Mosin Nagant? Is there a high temp adhesive that will help? I'm sure boiling the bolt body would not be enough heat to damage it and freezing temps is what they were built for.

Just weld it on, and check your lug nuts regularly.

Exactly how would you even propose to do that?
Are you thinking of machining the old handle into a post and then drilling a hole into the new handle and slipping it on the post?

I have welded a few on with no problems, but I can't even imagine how ugly it would be to try and thermally fit one...

If what Tmckinney wants to do is cut the OEM knob off of the bolt handle, and replace it with a custom knob, could the custom knob be attached to the bolt handle with red Loctite?

Green loctite would be a better choice.

Yes there is a green locktite. But tig welding is your best bet. But on a mosen the bolt welding could exceed the cost of a new rifle.
