First AK build

Between Calguns and the Files, I finally completed my first AK build: a Polish underfolder. Parts kit was purchased from AKB (all matching numbers). Here are just a few pics...







I used the Toth jaws for all the rivets except the center support and rear trunnion.





I want to give a BIG shout-out to AIMSMALL who supplied me with the shims needed to clock the muzzle device



In order to stay above 30" OAL, I installed an Echo93 rear sling attachment and AMD extended muzzle device (advise I received from a Calgunner). The AMD muzzle device will eventually be modified to resemble something of a Surefire brake.

Thanks 69Mach1 and to all other Calgunners. I'll admit I was never a fanboy of the AK but I guess we're never too old to change I've been home building since 2000 and a member of Calguns since 2007, but more of a lurker than active member. Maybe that will change. Thanks again for the compliments and to 69Mach1 for the sticky. It was both a great source of information and inspiration

I forgot about the TG rivets. Those were pressed using the AKB rivet jig. The CS and rear trunnion rivets were started with a ball peen hammer and finished with a press and rivet die.

I had to redo the CS rivet, which was frustrating. Those long rivets have a tendency to mash in the middle rather than on the head. The only rivets I couldn't reach with the Toth jaws were the lower rear trunnion rivets. I needed to cut a slot in the cross member between the jaws in order to reach in far enough to press. Other than that, the Toth tool worked perfectly as did the AKB TG rivet jig.

Nope.
Rifle needs to be over 30" long in it's shortest configuration in which it can be fired. Nothing in the law says you have to lock the stock open if you meet the OAL requirement.

Sweet looking rifle! These Polish AKMS underfolder kits are certainly among the nicest and most desirable AK kits that are still available out there. There is just something so cool and retro about the underfolders - has been following the Russian incursion in the Crimea and noticed that some of the Russians are still carrying the beloved AKMS underfolders? I love seeing old school AKM series rifles with the laminated wood stock sets and Bakelite magazines.
