SG Recoil Pad Install

Need to install a NOS Ithaca recoil pad on my 37, the pad has an aluminum base. Will an orbital sander be able to grind down aluminum ? whats the best way to deal with an aluminum base ?

Remove stock and send out to be done. I fit pads to stocks starting at $30 plus shipping.
