    Need an oven?, try this

So I've seen a number of threads about curing finishes, Here is what I use, it is composed of parts from home depot, sheet metal ducting, insulation for said ducting a stove top element and bowl a dimmer switch. I can get temps of 350 with ease, although it take a little longer with the cold weather to get up to temp.

the top cap has an eye bolt inside to hang parts from and is long enough to place a barreled action.
I have used is for countless projects, never had an issue.
So I thought I would pass this along.

That looks like a fancy version of one I made recently.

Mine is powered by a hot plate made sometime in the 50s. Hits over 350F in no time. Maybe higher but I haven't tried.

my cap is literally from a tin of cookies which happened to fit perfectly. Has an old coat hanger running through it to hang items.

Good idea. I use a double-wall piece of ducting to lower the exterior wall temperature. I have a used this type of setup for steam bending wood. Of course I use steam as the heat source in that setup.

I used and old electrical cabinet i got from work, a walmart $15 hot plate and a instant read thermometer. I do need to insulate it better but it does just fine for what I do.

you could take a wooden box and line with 5/8" drywall on four sides and the top. hot plate in bottom. the drywall is flame and fire resistant. if you really wanted to go over board double it up to 1 1/4" thick per wall.

I agree that some ovens are for cookies. But all your heat treat "Ovens" for your aircraft part are ovens as they don't get hot enough to be a furnace.

Ovens are typically 0˚-1200˚ Furnaces are typically 600˚- 2000˚ and the better ones up to 2400˚

you heat treat parts in a furnace, you use a draw oven to temper and anneal

                          Yeah semantics
