Ak Parkerizing (Advice Needed)

I don't think you can Parkerize Camel Toe, you may however be able use it as a substitute for steel wool activation.

I took an old cooler and a shovel to the beach and got my sand from there. There is a screen mesh over the hopper, and I just poured the sand through that. It caught the worst of the shells and sticks and crap. I do the sandblasting in my driveway, and sweep up the worst of it when I'm done. Everything else I hose off...?

alum. oxide is a better media. if using sand, wear a hood. silicosis.

+1 .. remember that the crap will get in your lungs and eyes.

Some stuff from Harbor freight is only $20 and works great. Just shoot it into a big box or tub to catch most of it.

If you are worried about the bore... dont. If your barrel is chrome lined, it wont matter.

To protect the chamber, I stuff some wet paper towels in there. The muzzle, I just didnt hit it head on. But one guy did have a slick idea... take a foam earplug and stab a golf tee thru it. compress it and shove it into the muzzle.

I've done a whole lot of home parkerizing. Several dozens of pistols, long guns from my collection and friends. We've done parkerizing of AK builds at the San Bernardino AK Build Party. They turned up really nice.

For best result, blast the metal with aluminum oxide.

Prep is KEY to the final quality of the parkerizing. Make sure parts are throughly degreased and clean. Before blasting and parking as stated in a prior post.

I don't bother plugging up barrels anymore. Parkerizing doesn't stick to the chrome lining. If anything does gunk up the bore. A quick cleaning with your standard barrel cleaning process and it returns to it previous state. The gunk just doesn't cling to the bore. The only barrel I'd plug up is an expensive target barrel.

As said before. Just break down the major components for a decent park jobs. Most people would be completely satisfied with the results.

For really nice restorations. I've completely tore down rifles to the individual pins, bolts, washers, parts and parkerized all the like sized parts in quick batches.
