    paperweight, now what?

My brother gifted me an AR15 80% but I never got around to it. Now what do I do? QD jig and hand drill it? Got a vise for Christmas that I need to install on the workbench but should be gtg after that. Or go to Harbor Freight for a drill press?

    What are you guys using?

Sorry. Aluminum and anodized, if that makes any difference.

Thinking about getting a Harbor Freight drill press and jig kit.

Any recommendations would be appreciated. PMs are okay too.

      Thanks in advance.

The search tool here on calguns will turn up lots of info for you.

Also lots of good videos on youtube.

When i finish or destroy my polymer 80%,im planning on doing an aluminum one with a drill press.

          Good luck

Definitely get at least a drill press. Doing one with a hand drill is possible, but it's difficult. If you can get in front of a mill at all, DO IT. You will be glad you did. Yes, there's all that ATF crap going on about not being allowed to rent a mill unless you take it home, but you'll figure out a way to stay legal.

Even with a mill, do your bulk hogging out with drill bits. I learned this the hard way.

on a manual machine yes. My machine cuts a nice pocket and I can set the percentage of step over to what ever I want.

And just because I have a machine doesn't mean it's for rent lease or other wise.
at least not right now it's not.

I'm using a bench top mill. No jigs.

                  Sell it.
Let someone else deal with it.
                  Buy a $49 finished lower.

I just finished a qd-10 80% with a drill press and drill bits from Home Depot, and end ill bits from harbor freight. It was a good experience and I'm glad I completed it.
Not super difficult, but it is time consuming. Patience is required.

If you are thinking of buying a jig look at this one. It uses a router.
