Which AR upper vise do you recommend?

I just use a generic bench vise that's older than me (circa 1970s).

If you're talking about vise blocks, then I have both the clamshell style and the 'pin' style which is a block that you anchor via the receiver pins. Both types are available through Brownells and Midway.

Tipton Best Gun vise is what I bought recently.

Fits long guns, pistols and Ar15. Is compatible with Wheeler AR15 vise parts too.

Not sure if that's what you're looking for or not.

The clamshell is the only solution if you have an A2 style upper with the carry handle.

The pin type will only work on flat tops but the clam shell will work on both.

I like the pin type for general tasks (cleaning, etc.) and light assembly (dust cover, forward assist, etc).

The clamshell works best for barrel assembly and muzzle device work because it prevents your upper from being twisted or deformed by torque.

I tear down and rebuild a LOT of uppers and I do most of the work on a DPMS claw.
They work with both flattop and A2 receivers as long as you don't need to exceed 80 ft-lbs on the barrel nut.
For really stubborn barrel nuts, I use a brownells clamshell for A2 receivers or I use PRI aluminum pin-on block and a PRI picatinny block on top and I clamp the receiver in the milling machine vise.
