Beretta 92FS bbl replacement

Recently bought a police trade-in 92FS. Problem is the bbl is kind of beat up and I would like to replace it. How difficult is it to fit a new factory bbl to a Beretta 92FS? Are these drop in bbls or is some fitting required. I have fitted an Ed Brown bbl to a Colt 1911 before but, have no experience with the Berettas.

They are drop ins. Just go to berettausa.com and look in their parts. Will cost you about $200 if you go factory.

Good price. Even comes with locking block, etc. Enjoy your Beretta.

When replacing the locking block, check the clearance where the "ears" meet the slide. The torque created by the bullet spinning down the barrel will cause the left ear to contact the left side of the slide first, often causing some peening. You may need to take some material off the RIGHT ear with an india stone.

Look up "fitting a Beretta 92 barrel" and read up.

You aren't actually fitting the barrel, you are fitting the barrel locking block.

Also, the barrel on the Beretta has very little to do with it's accuracy. Most Beretta 92 'smiths would probably just install a ' Weigand-type' conical nose-cone piece and a new locking block first.

And if you are looking for hype-accuracy, you'll end up going to the AMU's double set screws underneath, eventually.

A well fitted Beretta can shoot circles around most custom 1911's. My personal M92 Inox was GTG out of the box, but now it does under 1.5 with everything that I put it. And I have yet to change a factory part out........

+1 on making sure you have contact on both sides of the locking block, PLUS, if your barrel is due, your recoil spring is also due.

Did you shoot it? I am curious because I bought two of the same J&G's you did. What is beat up about it? Pics?

No kidding. I bought a PS from GB and from SummitGunBroker. Both had holster wear, but the barrels looked perfect.

If you have a leading problem, take the barrel to a smith you trust..
