Romy G Build Advice

I just received three Romy G kits from gunthings for my first build. They are in great condition and I have begun the demillimg process on one of them. All that's left on the first one is to remove the barrel and remove the rivets in the front trunnion. Fedex is dropping off a Grizzly 12ton shop press to take care of that. I plan on bending the receivers from 80% flats but I'm am in need of a jig (preferably one that can also bend top rails). I was looking at the bending jig from ak-builder but it is a bit pricey. Anybody know where I can get a more affordable bending jig with about the same quality? If not would it be possible to rent a jig from somebody? I'm in Fountain Valley, Orange County.

I tried pressing out the barrel pin today and it would not budge and I managed to bend my gas block.... It was tweaked alot but I managed to bend it back enough that it looks straight when you use the front sight as a guide and the gas tube fits in without a problem so I hope it will be ok. I now have to try to drill the barrel pin down the center so I can try to press it out and order a new pin from ak-builder.

I would completely demill one and then completely build the rifle first. Then test shoot first rifle. Then demill the secound one. The secound rifle will so much better. Slow down CowBoy.

Also stop and plann. components - build type - CA compliant - Federal 992r compliant - US parts counts.

I learned so much about the rifle and the little steps that help build the desired product or rifle you want. There are a lot of little mistakes I made on the first rifle I am building. I will have a lot of STUFF down to an art by the time of the secound rifle.

Use the search button and that answer a lott of questions - but it is way cool to ask questions.

Have fun - buttt it is an artistic journey - expect set backs - and the trill of the build.

No such animal exists.

I suggest you look at the AKfiles forums, specifically the "gunsmithing" section and read, read, read, and read some more. There are a lot of stickied threads about AK building.

Oh, and if you have specific questions, there is a search function to use, because it has all been asked and answered before.

why mess with bending a flat? buy from nodak they are 55 dollars each and they are nice.

Direct from NDS. $55 shipped. If you have a dealer who doesn't charge an arm and a leg it is worth every penny. They also give quantity discounts (although 3 will not meet the # needed).

Will use a bullet-button so I can have the "evil features". Only one of the three kits is mine and the other two are for my grandfather. I plan to build mine first (sorta a guinea pig) so I can help my grandfather build his after.

Btw after checking out a few bending jigs I think I can make one. I also downloaded the 555th jig design pdf and a few receiver blueprints to help me make a jig. Anybody else build a homemade jig?

I made my own jig using the 555th dimensions and while it gets the job done I'd much rather have the AKbuilder jig with top rail step down if I weren't such a cheap-azz.

dph sells a ready made 555 type jig. it won't do top rails though, only ak builders do that. you don't really need the step rail setup. shop the classifieds, jigs come up now and then. i bought an old ak builder, doesn't have the top rail setup, for around $100. check here and the akfiles.

I have all the stuff youd need to build. I am done with the flat bends so I could sell ya the bending jig and the spot welder. I'll send you a PM with details if you are interested.


BTW... to save you three hours of hell... buy a cheap die grinder!
