    Beginner 80% build

I have searched the fourms and can't come up with a definite answer to my question. I have never done a 80 percent build and don't know where to start. I have a friend at work that has a fabrication shop with all the necessary tools but I need to know what jigs do I need and specifics. Is there a complete package that has the jigs and lowers as one. It seems to me some come with two jigs, some come with four, some don't, I'm a little confused. If someone could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thank you guys in advance.

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

tactical machining has been around for years.
Best Prices on 80% lowers and fast shipping! Tactical Machining is the best source for 80 percent lowers, build kits & accessories. Our prices can't be beat.

they are out of stock AR-15 jigs right now.
if you buy a different brand, make sure they have a jig also. one jig does not fit all.

OP, you should change your user name to Swarf8889. I doubt you'll get, it's machinist humour.

If you have a proper mill then you don't need the jigs but they will make it easier if this is your first time. Otherwise download this PDF and make the fixture plates in the appendix so you get some experience then just use a mill and and angle plate.

weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

i too have been around for years. my jigs work on more lower receivers then the tactical machine jigs and are far more user friendly. they also come with a better warranty. LIFETIME ON THE SIDE PLATES.

And thanks you guys for all the help explaining that to me. It really cleared things up for me. I will be investing in a set if jigs real soon. Now what technique do you think is better my buddy has a drill press and a mill. I have done a little machining in high school but it has been about ten years since I touched any type of metal fabrication machines besides a welder and plasma cutter.

If a milling machine is an option, don't even consider a drill press.
A milling machine is 100x better than a drill press.

Yes milling is the main option that I have avaliable to me. I was just trying to figure out what I needed cause I have no experience in 80% at at. It will be my first 80 percent build. from what I'm getting I. Looking at 90-130 bucks for jigs and another 80-110 for a 80 percent lover correct.
