Help with Colt Defender 1911 Front Sight

Hey Guys, I received a set of night sights for Christmas. The rear sight looks good but when I hold up the front sight it sticks past the front of the slide. Also the new front sight has a hole in it and a small roll pin, the original front sight does not.

Did I get the wrong sight?

It is a Meprolight ML-10779 and says its for the colt defender, "Novak Genuine TRU-DOT Night Sight Systems for Colt Defender Pistols"

I have it flopped over in the picture so its easier to see how far it sticks out.

Dovetailed sights usually require fitting to the slide.
You remove metal from the bottom of the dovetail until the sight will enter the slide half-way with only finger pressure.
Then, drift it in to the final alignment.
Once it's in place, drill a hole in the slide throug the hole in the sight blade and install the roll pin which will keep it from ever moving left-right in the dovetail.

If I do all that then the front of the sight will be sticking out past the front of the slide... Would I need to grind the front of the sight down so it sits flush?

        The website contradicts itself,

This title says its for colt defender but if you look on the bottom right of the page is says colt xse with a .180" front end

I think I have the slightly longer sight for an xse???

          Call Brownells and ask them...

You might have the wrong ones if they are hanging off the front of the slide.
