Heck yes it could, even if they properly opened up the bolt faces for the larger rim diameter.it seems like a 74 converted to a 7.62 akm. Could this cause problems later?
I'd like to know VERY specifically what bolts he is using for this conversion.
Controversially, that is basically a Arsenal, sheet-metal, 106-type, AK at a far cheaper price, per parts kit.
Just a thought....... -

I ran into several of these kits last time Curtis offered them. The bolts and carriers were from milled Bulgy kits. On one of the trunnions they had machined too much where the lower rear rivet would go thru (to accept 7.62 mags). The ear snapped off while pressing the rivet. I repaired it by welding. Personally I think they're a bit overpriced but I'm a cheap bastard."Every great cause begins as a movement, becomes a business, and eventually degenerates into a racket."

Guessing Curtis is using bolts, and carrier from a milled Bulgarian parts kit but opening up the 5.45x39 trunnion to accept 7.62x39 magazines, and modifying the bullet guide for the larger round I would be leary of.
I am also wondering where he got a run of 22mm trunnion journal 7.62x39 barrels that are profiled for AK74 barrel parts?
Sounds like a franken kit to me, and for that price I'll pass.Comment

The bolt and carrier aren't modified.
Pretty sure Curtis profiles his own barrels from blanks."Every great cause begins as a movement, becomes a business, and eventually degenerates into a racket."

If he did --- aren't Bulgarian milled AK's the short lugged, thick stem bolt, whereas the Bulgarian 74' is the long lugged, smaller stemmed bolt ??Guessing Curtis is using bolts, and carrier from a milled Bulgarian parts kit but opening up the 5.45x39 trunnion to accept 7.62x39 magazines, and modifying the bullet guide for the larger round I would be leary of.

So, they have to be opened up, right ???
Wondering about the barrel too ??
I'd DEFINITELY pass on that kit also, even if I were into doing sheet metal AK builds right now.......LOL !!!
But I am currently neck deep in HK land on some expensive stuff (even for HK crap) and getting ready to start a forged M14 re-build, so no Eastern Block stuff for me for a while anyways, guys.Comment

Yes, the bolts are different. That's why he uses the carrier and bolt from the milled 7.62 kit. No modifications needed if you use them together."Every great cause begins as a movement, becomes a business, and eventually degenerates into a racket."

I think you're missing where we're telling you the bolts and carriers are 7.62x39 from other used parts kits.If you can't explain it simply you don't understand it well enough. Albert EinsteinComment

Ahhh, I forgot that the Yugo and Bulgy AK47's have the long lugs on them also. I was thinking about the usual 47'-to-74' swap over issues.Yes, the bolts are different. That's why he uses the carrier and bolt from the milled 7.62 kit. No modifications needed if you use them together.
Not missing anything here, sir. I am simply trying to figure out what he is doing to make this mix & match of a "parts kit" work ??I think you're missing where we're telling you the bolts and carriers are 7.62x39 from other used parts kits.
So, going under the ASSumption that he is making his own barrels from blanks, then there shouldn't be any modifications to the trunnions barrel journals --- but there would still need to be a swap out of the feed plate, correct ??
Does anyone who has built one of these kits have any picts to throw up to show what you get out of the interface between the front sight/top cover/front trunnion and the hand guard/front trunnion areas.
Again, I am not very interested in buying one of these kits, but having had some issues doing different parts swaps in some of my own previous builds (PSL-54C & a Kyber Pass milled build), in those specif areas, through the years between different models/origins of parts --- I am very interested in how some of those various interface issues were solved by people.Comment
