    Upper handguards

I got this DPMS upper. The Handguards rotate back and forth about 1/8 inch. I took them off and there didn't seem to be a lot of wear on the plastic. But from looking at the notchs that hold it in place, I could see why it would move.

Is this normal for these handguards?

Should I just get new ones? Are there better ones than others.

I have handguards that look the same on my CMMG and they move a little bit also. As far as I know it is normal.

it is normal on most standard handguards. you can upgrade to a free floating rail for a solid hold. but dont look for a cheap fix with those railed handguard inserts, they wobble just the same

a good starter rail is the midwest industries free floating handguard. i am on my 2nd build utilizing this rail and i strongly reccomend it. i also have a troy rail on another build but at 100 dollars more, its really not worth the price.

here's my very first build with the midwest rail

I have a Yankee hill on my other upper. It is real solid. I just have never had the standard ones. Did not know what to expect.

        That's a nice build.

the YHM handguards are probably the cheapest most solid handguards you can get.

they take alittle longer to install because they screw directly onto the barrel nut. but if you have the right tools well worth it.

It's normal for plastic handguards to wiggle.
That's why they are a poor choice to add rails for a VFG or light.

Thanks for that. I did not know. I will have to think about this. If it annoys me I will change them out for something else. I like the CASV-EL.
