need Rem 1187 barrel fix info

I have a 1187 barrel that has a failed gas block silver solder joint. I'm seeking info as to tig - small, fusion weld using material from block onto barrel VS re-soldering. Anyone used tig? Concerned about stress cracking, heat treatment, etc.

I'd need to see it up close but I'd have to say off the top of my head an experienced welder should be able to do it and heat and stress is not and issue as long as he controls his heat.

I would ask remington if they will warranty it first before you have somoene else work on it.
If that does not work out, I would next have someone re-flow the silver solder job.
I have welded on some shotgun barrels and I was never really pleased with the results as the wall thickness is just so thin and that makes the temperature control trickier.

If Remington won't fix it, be careful who you use. My former agency had an alleged "870 expert" shorten a bunch of 870s. He didn't do such a hot job on soldering the lugs and several of the barrels launched downrange when fired. Interesting... for a second or so!
