    80% 1911?

Does any one know where I can find 80% 1911? I think I'm ready to to tackle that project.

    Thanks

    80% 1911?

KTO has some very nice 80% frames.

Wow, they sure are expensive. Care to share the logic behind building a 1911? It would seems to about the same price just to buy one at LGS.

Just a little hobby of mine. I like to tinker with stuff and add my own parts. It's nice to say I actually made this gun my self. Also if you compare price to to a custom race gun or even a nice high end 1911. Your build might be a little cheaper if you find good deals on parts.

Home building is never about saving money. If that's what you go into it expecting, you will be sorely disappointed. That goes for ARs, AKs, etc too.

The satisfaction of building something myself is worth quite a lot to me.

Actually in Cali it may save some money because you add up tax, transfer and dros fees, plus in many cases SSE fees and all of a sudden building your own does not look much more expensive. I spent about $1.5k on my 2011 build which may be even less than what I would pay to get a real STI here.

Once you have the tools, it is cheaper. You also get to skip the paperwork, harassment, paying into a fund for sending a wannabe swat team to harass people that might own a gun and forgot about that drug conviction from the 70's, and you really know that weapon inside out when you are done.

You are also guaranteed to find other used for the tools and will wonder how civilized men ever got by without them.

I actually, I don't mind the paper works. After all, if the government is going to knocking down doors, I'm sure they won't just ask for the firearms that you registered. When we get to that point, as far as the government is concern, any one that ever has or had at least one firearm registered to their name will all be treated as felon. Since I already cross that line, it's kinda pointless to worry about that now.

So, would it accurate that say a home build 80% will run about $1.5K? Or is that on the high side?

                    I guess it depends on what you are building? I have built over 6 1911s a RPD,AK47, AKS74U, AR15, 1919 A4 Browning and it hasn't cost me over $2K.

It really depends on the parts you get! I have built an 80% ar15 rifle for about 400$ that's complete upper and lower with sights. As for the 1911 I plan on building a high end one compare able to a nighthawlk or sti for about half the price.

Conceivably, you could conspicuously sell all your registered and DROSed firearms and get off of any such lists while still having 80% builds.

Yeah just like everybody else that has done that. I'm convinced there is a separate list for those...
