    tapping/threading an AR lower

So I was wondering if anybody had done this...i know its minimally useful but wanted to see.

So as most of us AR guys know the safety selector detent spring is held in place by the pistol grip. So I was wondering if anybody had ever threaded that hole with a tap and added hex head plug to it to keep it retained. Yeah, i know...how many times do you take your pistol grip off...not often. But I've heard way too many stories of that spring shooting out and getting lost. I would assume the aluminium would be easy to thread and since there's not a lot of torque down force on that it not a lot of threads would have to be cut. Just wondering..

There's not much room for a spring, set screw and travel of the detent in there. Try it.

I've seen 80% lowers like that. Should be fine to do, might need to cut the spring down though

Thats what I was thinking. And worse comes to worse and it doesn't work i just end up with a threaded hole that the spring sits in, right?

4-40? Nope. We're talking the selector detent here not rear take down pin detent.

Could use a detent set screw but finding the correct spring rate would be an issue
