Ar15 upper rec vice blocks that work?

    Hey Guys,
I've purchased 2 different ar15 upper rec vice blocks so far and tried them on 4 different ar's that I have Neither block will close completely around the stripped upper closest to the barrel nut.

Can anyone offer recommendation or advice in this department?

    Thanks,

    Robert

My favorite is the DPMS claw.
It supports the receiver from the INSIDE so there is no issues with all the billet receivers that have non-standard outside dimensions.
Otherwise, I use a pair of PRI aluminum blocks, one that holds the rail and one that fits around the lugs.
Then, I clamp the receiver between those two blocks in the milling machine vise.

    Most work performed while-you-wait.

Thanks for the info! I read about that one but ended up buying the block worx cause it was recommended for flat top ar's and it looked like a solid hold in the vise. I may end up getting the dpms claw as well to try out.
This all started with me wanting to convert one of my ar's to 5.45x39. still waiting on the barrel to be in stock..

Not trying to be a Richard Cranium, but are you sure you putting it on right. When I got mine (from midway I think) there were no instructions and it looked like it should go in one way, but turned out to go another. Honestly the only way if fit properly looked backward, but it works great. Also, if you have an ejection port cover, make sure it's closed on the insert.

Where do you live, if you still can't get it to work, you can use mine if you're close.

The one I have looks kinda like this one, but with a different insert.

I use the one Brownells sells that has pins to hold from the lugs. It's made of nylon but i've used it a lot and it hasn't broken. Works the best if you're worried about marring the surface of the receiver
