    Removing 10/22 sight mount

I've seen the posts about removing the drift adjustable sight from the end of the barrel.

What I want to do is remove the "bulge" (for lack of a better word) that holds the sight itself. My goal is to thread the end of the barrel. Yes, I could just trim the thing & thread what's left, but I'm real picky about staying at 18.5in long.

Or, if that bulge is permanently part of the barrel, should I just thread that?

I believe it is a permanent part of the barrel. I have turned many barrels down with a lathe and it cleans up like it was one piece. If you are using a lathe to thread, just clean it up with a sharp HSS tool bit then cut you thread.

The front sight base is part of the barrel.
I have threaded dozens of 10-22 barrels where I leave them 18.5" long.
What I do is machine down the FSB, leaving the rear 1/8" or so for the muzzle device tighten against.
