    Surgeons Bottom Metal

    Hey y'all.

I'm looking to get a Surgeons Bottom Metal for 308cal (link to item below), but I hear that the metal won't fit into the factory bottom of a Medalist A2 stock and that I will have to find someone to do the work. What I have also heard is that the work is a pain in the *** and no one wants to do it.

Is anything I have been told true??? If not, then does anybody know of a shop in/near Sunnyvale that will do the work and for how much???

This is where the major issue is, finding someone to inlet the stock for the bottom metal. I was in the same situation a few years ago. I even bought the Surgeon bottom metal. I couldn't find anyone in the area that could do it.

What I did was, sent the bottom metal metal back for a refund( thank you Brownell's). I then called Jeff at CDI Precision Gun Works in Florida. I sent my stock to Jeff. He inletted it for me for his bottom metal kit on a CNC machine for about $75.00.

It dropped right in. The only thing thing my gunsmith had to do was to trim a hair off of the magazine latch to get the AI magazine to sit a little lower. I had this done a few years ago and have had no issues.

The other thing I did a number of years ago to switchover a 40XBKS to DBM, I called George at GA Precision. I sent the stock to him, he inletted it for me for the Badger DBM for about $75.00 and sent it back to me with the /badger DBM kit. It dropped right and worked with no Gunsmithing.

I like the surgeon DBM, but the problem is getting someone in the area to do the inletting. I couldn't find anyone in the Bay Area to do it.

O/P, since Randall (ar15barrels) answered up, I would give him a call. You might want to send the whole rifle to him in case there is some fitting / feeding issues with the AI magazines. He has the know how to get it to feed properly.
