    Puma 92

I just picked up a new Puma 92 in .38/.357. I took it out to the range today for the first time, and it shot great. When I got home and cleaned it, I wanted to take the wood off to get to the entire barrel. When I unscrewed the rear band screw, I felt it snap. I got the screw out, the threaded tip is still in the opposite end of the band. I called LSI, and they didn't even want to talk about it, just wanted me to ship it. I asked if they could just send me a screw, they said they don't have any in stock. I don't know how they would then fix the rifle if they don't have the screws. I'd rather not go through the hassle of shipping the whole rifle anyhow. Although, if I have to drill the tip out, I will probably strip the threads.

I have looked for the screw online, closest I found was on Numerich, band and band screw for a Winchester Model 94 POST 64 TOP EJECT STANDARD, but I don't know if that will fit. If it does, I could just order both and take care of it.

Would I have to overnight the rifle to LSI if that is what I need to do?

Why not just send the band?

Rifles can be sent UPS ground if needed. I'd contact Steve Young, the Pume specialist. He might be able to help

Yeah, sent him an email yesterday. I ended up drilling out the broken piece, re-tapping the threads, and used a 6 32 machine screw. Seems to work good, I'll go shoot it and find out.

The screw that broke looks like it was made out of the cheapest pot metal. How it sits under the barrel may have been stressed under recoil/heat. I'm hoping the hardware I replaced it with is a bit tougher. Now I'm just kind of scarred to unscrew the front barrel band (might refinish the wood)

The barrel band needs to go on the same direction as before you removed it. The angle of the holes won't line up if you turn it around.

The M92 has metric parts and the winchester uses standard parts...the winchester parts won't drop-in without fitting.

You did the right thing by drilling out the broken screws and using a new machine screw. It's not worth shipping cost to send it back. But...I believe StevesGunz is the shop that does warrantly/service work for Rossi. so if Rossi would pay the shipping to and from, it would be worth having him slick it up for you while it's there for warranty work.

I've spoken with Steve (super nice guy). I ended up buying his DVD, ejector spring, steel follower, and some spare screws

I finally got around to slicking up the gun based on hid DVD instruction. Wow.
different rifle altogether, well worth it. If anyone is thinking about it, just do it!

Oh, and this rifle is accurate as all get out! my current "funnest to shoot ever".

              I have a Puma 92 stainless in 454Casull
People around me stop shooting their puny .223, .308 and 30-06 rifles and start looking for earplugs when my little kitty coughs 350 grain bullet handloads rushing at 1600 fps downrange

try EMF in Socal... they sell the cowboy-ized version of the Rossi levergun (the same thing you've got) EMF carreid parts for them. OR googel or yahoo M&M gunsmithing... I've used them a couple times to get 1892 rossi parts.
