    Cast AR-15 Reciever performance.

Thinking of picking up one of these

Has anyone used one of these?
How do they stand up to heat?
Are there any reports of cracks?

I'm looking for real info from calgunners not thread crapping.
    Thanks.

I did one cast one that I got from ar15plus several, several years ago. (not the one you linked to).
      It sucked.
The problem was that you relied on the top of the receiver, and the back being straight and square to align with the drill jig.
      Mine wasn't.
Can't trust a casting to be straight and square, without machining after the fact.

I have a few of them I did out of there 80% and they work just fine!
There is really no stress on a lower. I have one I have fired serval thousand rounds with out any problems.

            Cast AR-15 Reciever performance.

Here is one I duracoated pink for the misses

No cracks. Very strong. Investment casting is very expensive. I bet the molds they used most likely cost over 100grand. They use alloy380 I believe witch actually has a stronger tensile strength than 6061 witch normal lowers are.

They don't recommended anodizing cast but it can be done.

For the price you can't really beat them! Much better than a polymer lower! I had a few polymer lowers and one of my dogs used it as a chew toy lol...

Just wondering why are you worried about heat? There is no heat being transferred to a lower.

If your worried about leaving them outside and melting? That won't happened either.

As long as it's a quality casting no real issue. I was sold some casting that aren't fit for BB's but I keep them around for pistol uppers,.
