    WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I have several old (junk) handguns I "inheireted" from my great Uncle,(he was a constable in pasadina). Anyway...Ive been playing with this old H&R .32...I'm ordering a few parts for it ...and i'm thinking about a COLD BLUE refinnish for it.
I guess my question is this...SHOULD I refinnish the gun or leave it alone?
I don't suppose its worth much either way, I don't think.
    What would YOU do.

By looking at that picture, I would say that it may not be safe to shoot that pistol. Regardless, my vote goes for leaving it alone...it has character.

While they are not high value weapons by todays standards, I would still keep them as original as possible -- Some are fun shooters if the hands and rachets are not worn out. My two cents --

@%#$& NO, I'M NOT GONNA SHOOT IT!!!
If i'm thinking right, I'ts probably metallic "black powder" cartridge.
Where are ya gonna find any of these around here?
        I'm just "tinkering" with it.

Like everyone else has said it, just leave it the way it is. Spend money on other guns unless this gun has a great sentimental value to you, then by all means spend the money looking like it did when it was new.

              I'd leave it as is.
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

                  Thanks for helping me decide.
I'll replace the missing spring and pin and leave it be.

some time ago i posted an old s & w i was researching for a friend. DA .38, 3rd model, mfd. 1880-81. the most remarkable thing i discovered was that this was safe to shoot with .38 s&w. i alredy had the ammo for my model 33 so guess what, bang bang. the totally best part is that legally it's not a firearm.

Did YOU pull the first trigger?
And are you saying I should?

I have a H&R a lot like that one, just a longer barrel and hammer spur. I picked it up for $100, and yes I have shot it. I am crazy like that. Can't stand having a gun I have not ever shot. If it is in decent shape it would probably be OK to shoot. Keep in mind these guns have all ways been cheep if not well made guns. They were not intended to shoot often. Most people would buy one for a carry/hide-a-way/self defence gun. One box of shells would last the original owner. They are a piece of forgotten history, being the last of the classic saturday night specials or belly guns. Leave as is.

It very well can be a shooter, depending on its condition - Most likely chambered for the 32 S&W or possibly the 32 S&W long. I have several that shoot quite well.

yup. i thoroughly checked this out and the gun in question. bang, bang, big fun shooting a gun over 100 yrs. old. not a very valuable piece or we would have only shot it once. most common response when i was checking on value of this was :"not much but they make good shooters." and as i said earlier, legally not a firearm.

I'd leave it as is, make a shadow box, and hang it on the wall as decoration.
