Thread tapping help

I'm looking for a 1 & 3/16", 16 tpi tap to chase the threads on the buffer/receiver extension tower on a raw 6061 AR lower.

I'm hesitant to spend $50-$100 for a tap to do just one.

Sacramento area machine shops quoted $50 to do it.

Any suggestions? Does anyone have one they are willing to loan?

I would do it for $20, but you are not close enough to my place to walk in...

If you can get the tap for $50, why pay $50 to have someone else do it?

Now if the tap is actually $100, you can take the cheaper route... But at least if you buy the tap, you can do it again in the future. Tools are never a bad thing to have around because you'll never know what the future brings.

I've been chasing the same tap, it is indeed expensive, but so is your unusable lower.

I would just buy the tap use it & then sell the tap.
you have to figure with all the people building their lowers it should be an easy sell.

I have a loaner coming from an acquaintance made on AR15.com.

For free......I intend on adding some kind of thank you gift when I ship it back.

Buy the tap for the $50-$100 you say, chase the threads on your lower, then put it up for sale for $10 less. The buffer tube threads seems to be a common issue

Sorry but what does a thread tap have to do with you being a LEO and someone else's "intent" or their restrictions regarding firearm ownership (or lack there of)?

I'm wondering where that idea came from. Who's possession of firearms?? and why is that an issue. So are you saying if you went over to someones house had them chase the threads and they look like joe chit the rag man you might have RS or PC to investigate further?? Sounds a little badge heavy their bro. I've got Family in law enforcement and they sure as hell don't go around acting like that. Don't judge a book by it cover. yeah you are LEO trained to spot crime and potential crime but basing that on someones appearance alone well again badge heavy

I'm not trying to "profile" or be badge heavy. I just didn't want to put myself in a position where I assisted someone in completing a firearm they shouldn't have in the first place. (however low that chance may be)
Call it liability, call it reassuring my conscience or whatever, I just don't want to deal with the situation.

I will contact the person who is providing the tap for my use ans get their permission to share their contact info with those who have shown interest here.
