    Question about modifications to PAR-1

Howdy all, I'm new here. I'm sure you get a lot of threads about stuff like this, and i have searched through the forums about this, but i still have a few questions about it.

Anywho i was considering buying a PAR-1 rifle, mainly cause I'm cheap and the slower rate of fire would be good on my wallet. That being said, i dont want to turn this into a semi-auto rifle as i would like to have all the "evil" features on it at some point.

Anyways, from what I've read, do i assume correctly that i can simply swap out the bolt carrier and turn it from a pump action into a bolt action? Would there be any further modifications necessary for this setup or what?

Additionally, I've noticed the original rear sight block still seems like its intact, i was wondering if they permanently destroyed the original rear sights or if you could simply just put in a new sight there... although it seems the distances wouldn't be accurate given the front post being much closer, but I'd still rather have an adjustable rear sight.

    Thanks for your input.

The rear sight block is not the same as on a regular AK, the area for the sight spring and sight is not milled into it, so you can't just add a real ak rear sight. The rear sight on the par is on the top cover.

You can drop a new bolt carrier in, with the charging handle, and it will now be a straight pull / bolt action. This is actually a better setup, IMHO, because the pump action on the PARs is really not good, and could cause a slamfire or unlocked firing if you ride the pump forward and are trying to shoot fast.

Keep the pump pieces in your bag, so you can explain to somebody if neccessary that its not semi auto. As at that point the only way for somebody (like leo) to know its not semi is to shoot it.

Would it be possible just to fashion your own handle and either weld or epoxy it onto the carrier?

Actually nevermind, after running all the numbers with the stuff i want to do with it, it would just be cheaper to buy a WASR-3... plus it'd look better.

Sergeant Rex and I did a full conversion on his PAR-1. Looks like any other Romy AK now.

I got it for a regular AK PG and it's on a standard romanian bakelite I think PG... What should I do? I kept the mag lock installed just in case this would happen...
