I've been contemplating this. Why aren't these as popular as ak47 pistols? The recoil is more manageable and i think that would be beneficial to a pistol. Only thing i can think of is the barrel is too sorry to get the bullet going at an optimum velocity. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

5.45 surplus is steel core. The surplus steel core 7.62x39 was banned due to a ak pistol being marketed. Since mil surplus is the only good source for 5.45 nobody wants to see it getting banned. You can't even talk about 74 pistols on the AK Forum.

You can still do it But I wouldn't want to be known as the guy that got the cheep ammo banned. It's really screwed up what the ATF did. Thing is they are to stupid to know that nearly any rifle round chambered in a pistol still has enough power to defeat LE body armor. Take a level IIIA vest and an AR pistol it will punch nice clean holes all day long even with hollow point varmint loads. Steel core is not needed on something moving that fast.

Trust me you don't want it back, it's all shot out, rusted up from corrosive ammo, parts missing I used on other kits . . .
