AR15 HBAR Threading for Flash Hider?

HI,
I am asking this question for someone.
If someone has a HBAR(.750" dia. barrel) w/no contours, can they
still thread their barrel for a regular Flash Hider?
Any tech details would be helpful. He knows someone who can
thread it though he is not a smith but has done so work like that
before for him.

First, an HBAR means the barrel is considerably thicker than 0.750" under the handguards.
It will be between 0.850" and 0.980" or so.
The area forward of the front sight base will be around 0.720" to 0.740".
No problem to thread such a barrel to 1/2-28 which is the standard AR-15 thread spec.
I have threaded a LOT of barrels.

If he is a machinist, tell him this:
0.496" major diameter
0.600" length
28TPI single start threads
0.475" PD
0.1" thread relief at the root is acceptable

Now still you want to take your chances, you are feeling lucky, have a beater upper/barrel that you bought for 150-200 here is an outline that you can adapt for the AR HBar.

Look at the price of the tooling alone on that page...
I charge $30 to thread an AR barrel and that's done the right way, single-point on a lathe.

It was for someone, not me ............... he says he took it to Carson City to someone( he lives near NV border) & they charged him 75.00 for it! Is nt that a lot?

Depends on if it was just a barrel, or a complete upper.
In order to do it right, you really need to take the whole upper apart to slide the barrel into the headstock of the lathe.
