    Measuring barrel length

How do you do it? What sort of tools do you use? I've read you measure from the bolt face to the muzzle.

With the bolt locked into the barrel extension put a cleaning rod down the barrel until it hits the bolt face.

Mark the cleaning rod where it leaves the barrel.

If you have a removable FH or MB the measurement is without the muzzle devise.

If you have a pinned and welded muzzle devise your barrel measurement includes the fixed devise.

Measure it with a tape measure, ruler etc.

Yes, bolt face to muzzle is correct. Just use an ordinary ruler or yardstick. If you want a precise measurement for some reason, get a big ol' set of calipers.
      Mo' BBs.

Also, (though I don't think you will have the DOJ measuring the length of your barrel), if your are planning on shortenning something, a good rule of thumb is to leave an extra 1/4" on there, just so there is no question.
