    True Oil Question

I have been unable to find Birthwood Casey True oil in the stores I shop at, so I tried to order it with my Brownell's order and was told that it can't be shipped to Calif. anybody have any ideas why, and do any of you Calgunners have a substitute for True Oil? I have tried linseed oil from the hardware store and it takes forever to dry.

Nope I order it all the time for customers that want basic stock refinishing, but I order the bottle not the Spray Can.

The wood for stocks is nothing special so anything that works on hardwoods would work on a stock, just make sure it is oil resistant finish so your gun oil doesn't ruin it.

I just got Tru-oil set from amazon few days ago.

But Tru-Oil bottle has label saying not for sale to CA.

        Prop 65 labeling.

you need to thin BLO and add some japan dryer.

Or you can quit using that stuff and use better finishes out there. Daley's teak oil finish with some alkanet root mixed in for color. Drys quick and leave a phenomenal finish

I've had good results mixing boiled linseed oil and lemon oil. I forget the exact ratio I ended up with, IIRC something like 2:1 BLO to Lemon Oil. Still takes forever to dry, but penetrates better and doesn't end up as gummy as plain BLO sometimes does.

I have used this extensively and it gives a fantastic finish if you follow instructions..

See if there is a Woodcraft store near you. they usually carry the stuff.

BLO with about 1/10 Turpentine mixed in... Wipe on and wipe off. Rub finish until dry to the touch. Let dry over night and reapply.

Follow the same routine until you get the finish you want

Tru oil is really good stuff.

No it isnt normally available in cali anymore.

So pick some up in arizona when you go to buy your ammo.

If someone on amazon or wherever is shipping it to you, it's because they dont know it's banned here.

I'ved used tru oil on a few of my guitars. I'm not the only one that does that. Even some high end factory guitars will have tru oil on the neck since it doesnt grab and stick to your hand while sliding up and down the neck like a normal poly or automotive clear does.

yeah, I had the same problem, good thing Midway doesn't have a problem shipping the stuff, I just got a 32oz bottle the other day. Not sure what Brownells deal is.

32oz is way too much so I broke it down into 2-3oz squeeze bottles with no air in them, I hope I can use at least half of them before they go bad or get suspended bits in them.
