Ahhhhhh..........
So you want to to make it appear your weapon can fire full auto so if a CA LEO sees it they somehow gonna understand the joke????
Not like you would get charged with a felony, have the firearm taken then have to wait until they test fire it to see it has no full auto mode before they dismiss the charges.
Yea that can't happen in California, no way

Possible.
Highly unlikely.
Without a third hole for the auto sear.
People need to decide their own comfort level on this.
Personally I put the extra notch on mine for the correct look.
I have not broken any law, and it cannot function in FA because it lacks the parts to do so.
Then again I don't give LEO any reason to question my firearms to begin with.

The point is not whether you broke the law or not but the appearance (remember most LEOs are not gun experts) will still get you investigated and possibly arrested.
There is a current GalGuns lawsuit against a CA Sheriff becuase they pulled over a person and arrested them for having a unregistered assault weapon, ........... the weapon was a unmoddied M1A which has NO features listed as assault weapon features.
Then they went through this whole deal and finally after many months and lawyer fees he finally got everything fixed and charges removed from his record.
Guess what
not to long afterwards the SAME SHERIFF DEPARTMENT arrested him again for the exact same charges for the exact same rifle.
SO bear that in mind when you give Anti Gun people even 1 inch they will take a mile.Comment

I know exactly the case you speak of.
IIRC he was not pulled over but his ex-wife/ girlfriend called the cops to his house.
I also recall something to the effect of the courts telling him that the chances of it happening again were slim to none, and they would have been if his ex didn't like calling the cops on him for kicks.
The point of this is:
This guy you speak of was arrested for a perfectly legal firearm by uneducated LEO.
This tells me it wouldn't have mattered if he had cool markings or not.
He was getting arrested anyway.
So remind me.
How is this case relevant to what we're discussing?
Should we not own legally configured firearms for fear of wrongful arrest?
If an uneducated LEO wants to arrest me for a perfectly legal firearm then the department better be prepared to pay my lawyer fees, and my lost wages. There may even be more tacked onto that.
I will not live in fear. I have done nothing illegal.
This mindset is part of our society's problem.
I believe it far overdue we change this train of thought.
Oh, and IIRC all lawyer fees he paid were given back to him.
Around $6000 IIRC.

The point is whether legal or illegal making something LOOK ILLEGAL will draw the attention that you would not want to have. If LEOs are arresting people for something that both looks and is legal but they are uneducated just imagine what they would do for something that is made to look illegal, whether it is illegal or not.
Think of it this way:
You have a 55 gallon drum in your front yard full of water but label it with a Haz Mat Label "DANGER RADIOACTIVE". While it is legal to have a barrel full of water do you think that would not attract unwanted attention by Federal, State and local officials?
So while what you are doing is not illegal and you are not afraid are you that starved for attention that you need to attract the wrong type????
We all here on CalGuns are screaming at the top of our lungs that "NO assault weapons for civilian use in CA are all semi auto" but all we need is someone taking pictures of your rifle and posting it all over the interent to give the other side ammunition for their misinformation.Comment

Calm down Chicken little
So you're saying a dip dunk cop can read Russian, Egyptian, Bulgarian, Romanian Yugoslavian?? cause the last time i check the marking were initials and not in english.
How about the fact that all AK's selector can go to the FA position? The selector passes through it to get to semi???
There are tons of AR's out there marked the same way in english, why haven't we heard about them???
I've got an FAL that it's lower is marked for full auto fire? and so is damn near every FN FAL and L1A1 out there.
I'd tell the cop "pop the dust cover dumb *** check your weapon and cycle it with the trigger held back does the hammer drop by itself???
When in doubt ask for a supervisor or sergeant.Last edited by kcstott; 09-10-2013, 9:11 PM.Comment

Has nothing to do with how the markings are lettered, having 3 marked spots for the selector to point to would mean what??
Safe, Semi Auto and Really Semi Auto??
Safe, Super Safe and Single Shot??
What most will know is Semi Auto has 2 markings for the selector to point to and Full Auto has 3 markings to point to, you would not have to even understand what the markings say or mean (even though yes there is weapons that go from safe to full auto with no spot for semi auto fire but most understand the above).
If you honestly think a LEO will in a public area test and dry fire a weapon when they have no clue what to look for, aint't gonna happen. The will slap the cuffs on you, sit you in jail and send the weapon to the lab for them to fire it to make sure it can not fire in full auto. THEN they will let you go, you spend alot of time trying to get you rifle back as well as getting the whole thing taken off your record so DROS does not red flag you.
Not even including all the great negative press from something like that.
Would be nice if CA was pro gun majority.... but it is not.Last edited by Gunsmith Dan; 09-10-2013, 9:28 PM.Comment

Well In my area it won't happen and neither will it in your area either. They have all been educated. and down here there is a version of the Sacramento memo that say you had better be damn sure the weapon is illegal when you arrest the person be cause if it is not the dept will not stand behind you on the civil case.
Don't forget the AR has three marked spots too... Or why would they need a selector stop in front of the selector??? That equals three spots in my book.
Just ask my brother CHP ID #19191Comment
