How to clean sks

Hey guys i wanna clean the sks, i bough a cleaning kit from turners, and right now i just finished cleaning the bore, i got those lil towels , got the long rod, and diped the lilttle towels in the "Nitro Solven gun cleaner" and my barrel is pretty cleaned now

I have another bottled labled gun oil, is that only for the bolt ? , so i just put some of that oil on the bolt and put it back and im set? i dont have to do nothign w the gas and piston right?

am i supposed to use the wire brush in the barrel too ? how do i know when ive used the wire brush enough

when I rarely cleaned mine i cleaned bore and the firing pin.

Sometimes getting the trigger group back in can be a challenge... That last 1/8" to get it to seat can look like a yard.

why would you???


just kidding,

start with a funnel and hot water...if you are using old ammo. dump the hot water down the tube "from the chamber end". a couple cups at a time should be ok, dirty water out the first time and clean the second or third time. this gets out the "salts" from the corrosive primers"

then clean as normal a number of cleaner rags, then a couple dry, and a couple with oil. drop a bit of oil into the trigger works and you are done.

the old russan rifles are not picky, and work good dirty. just watch out for "the salts"

Learn your fiream. Follow those instructions for a complete stripping and maintenace. Clean but do not oil the gas block, tube or piston. Dissasemble the bolt and make sure the firing pin channel is spotless.
