    NorCal Gunsmith?

    Hi all,

Anyone know of a good, reputable gunsmith in northern California? Preferably one who specializes in AR type rifles. Seems like gunsmiths are becoming a dying breed!

I guess southern California would be okay too since shipping is close.

    Thanks in advance!

How northern? Bay Area? Real Northern California?

I used CC Gunsmithing in Redwood City. Chaz took my jacked up upper and rebuilt it. He called me on my way home from dropping it off to tell me it was ready. I'll use him again when I need more work.

what do you need done to the AR?

Built up an SI Defense matched upper and lower. Used a DPMS 20" SS fluted barrel with the complete BCG and the bolt won't fully lock when there is a loaded magazine in it. Without the mag, the bolt closes fully with either the bolt release or using the charging handle. When I load a magazine into it, it stops between 1/2" to 1" from completely locking down.
I'm thinking of putting everything back into the DPMS upper and trying that with the SI Defense lower. What do you think?

I think you are pulling the charging handle back and releasing it.
This is NOT the proper way to operate the rifle.
When you pull back and release the charging handle, it bounces up and down as it races forward into the receiver.
This bouncing slows the bolt carrier, wasting energy that would otherwise be used to drive the carrier fully home.the next issue is you'd brand new parts have sharp edges that need to wear down.
A couple hundred rounds fired will smooth it out...

Got it! Thanks guys. I'm going to see if I can run a few hundred rounds through it before I take/send it anywhere. The only pain in the *** is I have to manually load a round into the hole each time until it decides to free up.
