    Timney 3lbs Trigger

I am having an issue with my Timney Trigger install. A little background, I ordered a Timney 3lbs trigger, PSA BAD-*** lpk and a 80% lower.

A little history, I installed a standard FCG and safety selector switch I had laying around and did a function check, found all working well.

Now fast forward to today, I received my Timney Trigger and PSA lpk. Installed all components of lpk and when I get to the trigger install; found that when I perform a function check the hammer will release when I switch from SAFE to FIRE.

Basically what is happening is, cock hammer and selector is on SAFE. Place selector on FIRE and perform function check (very nice release with the 3lbs trigger), cock hammer and check trigger reset and place on SAFE. Found that I can slightly pull the trigger back when it is on SAFE and can hear the trigger or something reset and when I place the safety selector on FIRE the hammer will release!

At first I thought maybe a bad BAD-*** selector, so I replaced it with the "mil-spec" safety selector and found same issue. Also found that I can actually place it on SAFE with the hammer forward.

Any ideas guys and gals? I am at a loss here... Can it be a bad lpk? trigger? lower?

If the trigger is releasing with the selector on safe, it is an issue with the location of the selector or the location of the trigger module in relation to the selector.
Try the trigger module in a known-good lower and see if the same problems exist.
If the problems go away, it's your lower.
If the problems remain, then the trigger module could be at fault.

The fact that the milspec parts work is NOT proof that the lower is good because milspec parts are designed to work with much sloppier tolerances than the timney wants to work with.

If the lower turns out to be the issue, it can still be made to work fine by fitting the selector or the trigger/disconnector to operate properly in the lower.

Trigger is not really releasing since hammer won't go but the minute I change it to FIRE it will release. Still that is not proper op and glad I didn't find out with live fire.

      Ugh... *sign*

Yep, it seems to be the lower. Swapped out the trigger group to my spikes and found it to be working properly.

How do I go about fixing this? Please don't say re-weld and drill... Man this lower is turning into more money then I plan of spending on it.

I don't know if i can make it oversized since it is a small pin trigger set?

Weld a pad on the tail of the part of the trigger that hits the selector drum.
Fit that pad until the selector will JUST go into safe.
That will eliminate all trigger travel when the selector is in the safe position.
Alternatively, you can weld a pad on the selector drum and fit that until there is enough room to rotate it to safe.

Yea, makes me really want to do another AR right away.

I will see if I can find someone to weld a pad to the selector drum since I don't really want to modify a $200+ trigger group. Only thing with this approach is it'll have to be welded while in the lower? I mean it would be kind of hard to install if it is out of the lower?

Measure the center section of the drum compared to the sections that ride in the lower.
There is some wiggle room there.

If you can't fix if at the selector without exceeding the selector drum diameter, then move on to the trigger.

Will try that out. Better to mess with a $50 part than a $200 part. Will report back with results.

Thanks again for all the advice!

I had a chance to get the safety selector middle drum built up and then fitted to just a little, if not even with the two outer drums and fine tuned it to fit in the lower.

Function checked the trigger assemble and works like a dream now!

I am very happy this was a simple fix (free actually, since I knew a welder at work)...

A BIG thanks to Randall aka ar15barrels for the tips and help!!!!

Now a few shots of what was actually done and one shot of my complete lower.
